  • I am a first-generation, Pakistani/American immigrant born in Karachi and raised in Chicago. I live on the unceded territories of the Peoria, Potawatomi, Miami, Kiikaapoi people.
  • I completed my Masters of Arts in Education at The University of Chicago - Urban Teacher Education Program in June 2008. Before that, I received a B.A. in Mathematics  from the University of Chicago.
  • I am currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  My research interests explore the intersections of pre-service and early career math teacher preparation in the United States, critical race feminism, and identity construction.
  • I am the program director of the Math Circles of Chicago, one of the largest free math circles in the country. When I’m not working, I enjoy playing with my dog, Jedi, who is very interested in calculating projectile trajectories of frisbees at all hours of the day.
  • I am a licensed math educator, instructional coach, and have served as grade level and department heads. I have taught in New York City, Chicago, and in Mexico and have over a decade of teaching experience.
  • I write poetry on the side. It has a way of illuminating the truth. My poems have been featured in Chicago's SouthSide Weekly, Scout & Birdie, and other 'zines.
